Let Her Eat Cake – Mother’s Day at the Green Hotel Hotel

Spoil your Mum rotten on March 6th with a special Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea or Sunday Lunch at the Green House Hotel, Bournemouth’s most eco-friendly luxury boutique hotel.

16 days. That’s how long you have to decide exactly how you are going to meet the impossible task of repaying your mother for the 364 days of the year when she makes far more effort at your relationship than you do.

Mother’s Day is held on the fourth Sunday of Lent, exactly three weeks before Easter Sunday – which this year means the very early date of Sunday, March 6th. No time to waste.

Basically at this stage there’s only one person who can save you: Beth. Beth is the Green House Hotel’s very own demon dessert queen and pastry chef and it’s true she spends an inordinate amount of her life thinking about…cake. Oh, and pudding.

Thanks largely to Beth, the Green House Hotel’s multi-award winning 2 AA rosette restaurant, Arbor, has long been a champion of the art of Afternoon Tea, serving it every day of the year here in our beautifully elegant Bournemouth Victorian villa between 2 and 5pm. And let’s not forget that British Mothering Sunday was traditionally the day when the Lenten Fast was broken especially for the eating of…yes, that’s right, cake.

Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea at the Green House Hotel is a grand and grown-up affair – but in a relaxed setting. All of the delicious bites we serve will be prepared fresh to order and arrive at your table (restaurant or bar – you choose!) not on doilies but on a three-tiered wooden tree. Your finger sandwiches will come with a choice of traditional fillings such as smoked salmon or egg and cress. Cakes, of course, will be prepared by Beth from scratch.

Not only is it gorgeous and intimate but also it gives us (OK, Beth) a chance to express our creativity and add new twists to a fine old tradition. And that’s pretty much what the Green House Hotel and Arbor Restaurant are all about. All for £18.50 per person.

You could always, of course, also treat yourself and your Mum to a bottle of something special. Maybe some of our fabulous Dorset sparkling wine from the local Furleigh Estate or, for really special occasions, you could always break out the Bolly (that’s extra, unfortunately!).

Of course, at the Green House Hotel, we also honour the British tradition of the whole family getting together to honour their womenfolk with a long, leisurely Sunday Lunch.  This is served from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm – only £17.00 per person for 2 courses, or £20.00 per person for 3 courses. Beth’s desserts feature here too: for example, a velvety oozy chocolate fondant filled with gooey salted coffee caramel and served alongside a boozy dollop of homemade Baileys ice cream. Enough said.

Except to leave you with the worlds of the American Anna Jarvis who kind of invented Mother’s Day. She didn’t like the giving of flowers to mark the occasion, and described the use of greetings cards as “a poor excuse for the letter you are too lazy to write”. A little Tiger Mother for our tastes. But if you really want to please your Mum this Mother’s Day, we agree that Hallmark’s best and a bunch of flowers just isn’t going to cut it. Come to the Green House Hotel in Bournemouth instead and say it so much better. With cake.
