Those long days of virtually perpetual darkness really start to take their toll come the end of February. So as the spring approaches, and the daylight starts sticking around longer, it really does make you feel like throwing off the duvet and slippers and getting out there. Which brings us to…
With such a wealth of fresh-air activities on our doorstep, from Bournemouth’s miles of golden sands – a mecca for surfers and stand-up paddlers – to the ancient wonders of the New Forest, the Green House Hotel, Bournemouth’s eco-friendly luxury boutique hotel, is the perfect location for a short break as the weather improves. With today’s wetsuit technology, getting out into the sea on a board is totally do-able in March – though admittedly not for the faint-hearted – and our local Surfs Up school is open for business every day except Monday. So why not push yourselves out of your comfort zone and then congratulate yourselves with a slap up dinner and warm, comfy bed at the Green House Hotel afterwards.
The Uggs will soon be off and while the sandals might not be coming out just yet, we all know there’s a lot to do to get those feet ready for public viewing. That’s why the pedi is the perfect girly gift for spring – whether it’s for Mother’s Day, a Hen weekend or special birthday. Here at the Green House Hotel, we offer in-room treatments so you can combine the tootsie-pampering with some gossip, a glass of something fizzy, or Afternoon Tea if you feel peckish. Call us for more details.
New life and colour
Spring means life – whether it’s the return of the birds or the flashes of colour appearing in the flower beds. Here at the Green House Hotel, Bournemouth’s mild climate means our gardens are a haven for native plant species and indigenous wildlife. We have installed bird and bat boxes around the grounds to create a safe environment for breeding and a log pile for invertebrates. In 2012 we installed two bee hives on our roof which produce honey that we used in the kitchen. So at this time of the year, with the gardens buzzing with activity, there really is no better place to be on a sunny, early spring day.
New seasonal foods
One of the very best things about this time of year at the Green House Hotel is the launch of new season menus at Arbor, our 2 AA-rosette, multi-award winning restaurant. Arbor’s ethos is to use the best local, seasonal ingredients, ethically sourced, and combine them in new ways to create amazing flavour sensations. So whether it’s super-fresh south coast Mackerel, tender Mendip Hills spring lamb or wonderful veg like asparagus and wild mushrooms, there will be something for everyone in our lighter, fresher spring dishes. Plus, of course, a whole raft of brand-new desserts to make the most of our delicious new-season fruits.
