5 good reasons to take Afternoon Tea on the lawn at the Green House Hotel

As the weather warms up, here are five good reasons to take Afternoon Tea on the lawn at the Green House Hotel

It’s the perfect way to get your Vitamin D fix

Most people can make enough vitamin D, so important for healthy bones and teeth, from being out in the sun daily for short periods from March to October, especially from 11am to 3pm. Fortunately, Afternoon Tea at the Green House Hotel, Bournemouth’s most eco-friendly luxury boutique hotel, is served out on the lawn on fine days between 2 pm and 4.30pm – plenty of time to get the exposure you need to stay healthy!

It will cool you down

You may think it an old wives’ tale but it is now scientifically proven that a cup of tea can indeed cool you down on a warm day. A recent article in a US scientific journal found If you drink a hot drink, it does result in a lower amount of heat being stored in your body, provided the additional perspiration that’s produced can evaporate. When the sweat evaporates from the skin, heat energy is absorbed into the air as part of the reaction, thereby cooling the body. So, put on some light clothing made of natural fibres, and you’re good to go!

Cake may be healthier than you thought

The “Marie Antoinette” diet advocates chocolate cake for breakfast as a way of aiding weight loss. It’s based on a study conducted by the University of Tel Aviv which revealed that starting your day with a slice of cake alongside food high in carbohydrates and proteins could actually give you better long term results than traditionally healthier options. But while chocolate cake for breakfast is not something we can see catching on, chocolate cake (or any flavour, for that matter) mid-afternoon is far more acceptable – and still gives you a good few hours to burn off the extra energy. Plus you are less likely to have sugar cravings come dinner time, when your body will have slowed right down

Tea keeps you young

Tea leaves contain large amounts of powerful antioxidants. These can reduce the formation of free radicals in the body, protecting cells and molecules from damage and combating aging and all sorts of diseases. Green tea in particular has also been shown to increase fat burning and boost the metabolic rate. In one study in 10 healthy men, green tea increased energy expenditure by 4%. Another study showed that fat oxidation was increased by 17% (though the effects may vary from individual to individual). The key, then, with the tea and the cake, is to make sure you work off the extra energy afterwards with a burst of exercise. Luckily, a five minute walk will bring you from the Green House Hotel lawn to the Bournemouth seafront where you can take your pick from a whole bunch of suitable activities.

Our tea is good for the planet too
