We happen to think the main ingredients for a classic New Year’s Eve are fantastic food, something a little special to drink, and the company of dear ones. Plus, of course, somewhere sumptuous to lay your head and summon in the New Year – there’s nothing like a perfect night’s sleep to make you feel ready for a fresh start. Of which more later.

To make the occasion extra special for our guests, the team at Arbor, Bournemouth’s 2-AA rosette restaurant, have put together the most amazing New Year’s Eve “supermenu”. You’ll find dishes cooked the usual Arbor way with seasonal, organic ingredients – ethically sourced and lovingly prepared. Head chef Andy has chosen his favourite dishes from our seasonal menus throughout the year and, for this one night only, is reprising them for our special guests.

The full menu will be available on the Arbor website when announced, but just to whet your appetite, New Year’s Eve starters include our incredible Hand Dived Lyme Bay Scallops, Stornoway Black Pudding & Roast Cauliflower from the summer menu (we do try to source locally in general but believe us, some things are worth going to the Outer Hebrides for);  light as a feather Gnocchi with Peas, Old Winchester Cheese (an English alternative to Parmesan) and a heady splash of Truffle Oil; and Confit Chicken Terrine, made from flavoursome free-range Cotswold White Chicken, with Leek Puree and Grilled Asparagus.

For your New Year’s Eve main meal, choose from Barn, Bay or Butcher: there’s succulent Glazed Pork Cheek with Wholegrain Mustard Potato Cake & Winter Vegetables; a hearty Pan Fried Sea Bream, Saffron, Chorizo and White Bean Cassoulet with New Potatoes; or for a veggie option, a simply stunning Roast Butternut Squash & Rosary Goat’s Cheese Suet Pudding with Buttered Swede Mash.

And then there’s dessert. Regulars at Arbor will know that the puddings alone are worth coming out for – perfectly formed creations, all made from scratch, straight from the wondrous, Wonka-esque imagination of our pastry chef, Beth. For New Year’s Eve there’s a wicked Mocha Fondant served with homemade Baileys Ice Cream; a pretty pink-and-ivory Rhubarb & Custard Mille-Feuille with tart pink Rhubarb Sorbet; or an amazing Baked Vanilla Yoghurt with comforting, warm homemade Waffles and Maple Syrup Ice Cream.

We advise you to book early – remember, this could be your last chance to sample these extra-special dishes from Arbor’s back catalogue. Choose a starter, main course and dessert from our incredible New Year’s Eve “Best of Arbor” menu for the inclusive price of just £50 per person. (Please note, though, that if you would like to add some nibbles or a favourite side dish, then these are in addition to the main menu and are priced individually.)

After dinner, you can kick back into the early hours over truffles and espresso, a liqueur coffee or perhaps a glass of our very special Fonseca late bottled vintage port in the bar. Just make sure you make it down in time for our New Year, New Forest breakfast, followed, perhaps, by a bracing walk on the beautiful beach – it’s five minutes from our front door.
